We took the plunge

We bought a Baby Kanoe. It really is beautiful--easy to install, easy to move from location to location (providing you have extra ceiling eye-screw things installed), easy to wash...and after reading about all the scary stuff in regular baby cribs this week, I'm extra appreciative of the organic cotton. Our baby bear is nearing 7 months--I wish we'd started sooner. We're adjusting slowly--she is figuring out how to make the Kanoe move by herself--hopefully this will assist in her being able to put herself back to sleep in the middle of the night. We are trying to ease our way away from cosleeping (which I think is great for many families, but I think I'm loosing my sanity due to lack of sleep). Hopefully this will help. If I was to recommend a secondary sleeping situation to a family planning on cosleeping, this would be what I would choose, hands-down. Even for devoted cosleepers, what do you do about day time naps once the baby can roll? This is MUCH much cheaper than an organic baby crib mattress. And infinitely more "storable" for those years between babies. I'll try to keep the blog updated on how Baby Bear is adapting.

foiled

I got lost trying to find the Baby Kanoe store. Hopefully tomorrow we'll make it there!

Baby Kanoe

I'm still on vacation--we're in Whitefish, MT right now. This morning I'm going to check out something called a Baby Kanoe...it looks like a great product. Our daughter is a fighter when it comes to sleep. I'm open to just about anything. Sadly, there is a dirth of reviews online for the Baby Kanoe. I'll let you know what I think.

Battlestar Galactica

My sister frequently hooks Sam (my husband) and me into tv-on-dvd. She's been encouraging us to watch Battlestar Galactica for months now--she loaned it to us, and last night, actually sat down with us to watch the first installment. I love it. Too bad Sam is committed to us only watching one episode of anything per week. I love the no commercials part of tv-on-dvd, but having the willpower to only watch 1 (or only 2) is a tall order...Sam's determined, however. So I'll let you know in the spring what i think of season one!

I watched this again yesterday...

It's a mini-documentary called "The Story of Stuff." It is most excellent...a sobering reminder of our consumer identity...well worth watching.

Watch it here.

BPA in my breastpump

I found out today that my breastpump (Purely Yours by Ameda) contains BPA. In Canada, the company is giving out BPA-free replacement parts. I've been fishing around to see what's possible here, but so far nothing has come up. I think this is incredibly tacky on Ameda's part. Whatever happened to being concerned about customer safety and satisfaction? I mean, this is BREASTMILK we're talking about here! Surely that should be the safest thing I give my baby!

Cloth Diapering while on Vacation

So we're almost half way through our vacation, and I haven't thought twice about our decision to cloth diaper while on the road/air/trail. Maybe it is because this is our system--it's what I'm comfortable with, what I enjoy, etc. But it's been easy. Just as easy as it always is.

Welcome to GreenPastaMomma

I'm honestly not sure how much I'll blog here. But thought I'd create an internet home, just in case. Hopefully I'll post some recipes, favorite websites, mothering epiphanies, and more.

So welcome. Glad you stopped by.
